A Little About The Lansdowne Portrait

George Washington stands tall and proud in this full-body portrait by Gilbert Stuart. The painting, done in 1796, is known as the Lansdowne portrait because it was a gift to the Marquis of Lansdowne, an English supporter of American independence. The painting was given from Senator and Mrs. William Bingham of Pennsylvania. This portrait is high in detail and is one of the most fascinating pictures of that time.
